Luggage
1. Timely booking and dispatch of luggage : Luggage should be presented
at the luggage office, at least 30 minutes before the advertised
departure time of the train
2. Dispatch of luggage by any particular train not guaranteed: Every
endeavor will be made to dispatch luggage by the train by which the
owner desires to travel but railways do not guarantee that it will be
conveyed by the same train or delivered within any definite time or
period.
3. Maximum weight and dimensions of packages accepted for dispatch:-
Over the broad and meter-gauge lines, no package exceeding 190kg in
weight or 2.5 meter x 1.5 meter in outside measurement and over the
narrow-gauge line no package 115kg in weight or 1.4 meter x 1.7 meter x
1 meter in outside measurement will be accepted for carriage as parcels
or luggage except by previous arrangements.
4. Articles not accepted as luggage: The following articles will not be
booked as luggage:-
i) Offensive articles such as wet skins, hide, etc., other than skins of
wild animals, securely packed in air-tight boxes at owner’s risk.
ii) Explosives, dangerous and inflammable articles.
iii) Bulky articles of any description which on account of their bulk
would be chargeable on measurement if accepted as parcels.
iv) Oil, grease, ghee, paint, etc., if carried in package which might by
contact, breakage or leakage damage other articles.
5. Articles on which free allowance on luggage is not admissible:-
a) Articles of trade such as carpets bales of cloth, boxes/cartoons of
cirgarttes, medicines, machinery parts, or any other articles of
commercial value which is intended to be sold during the journey or at
destination.

8) Medical equipments
9) Scientific equipments

12) Water Geezers
13) Generator of All types
14) Transformers of all types excluding house hold voltage stabilizers

The minimum weight for charge
for the above articles will be 50 kg per item
c) Television, Dish antenna, Air-conditioners, Cycles, Charpoys, Bulky
articles chargeable by measurement.
6. Luggage in the charge of passengers:- A passenger may take into
carriage only such small articles of personal luggage as required for
his own use in the journey and can be place in the carriage without
inconveniencing other passengers or reducing the available accommodation
in the carriage.
Only small suit-cases not light bed rolls are allowed to be carried by
passenger in air-conditioned compartments.
Any passenger who commits a breach of this rule, will render himself
liable to prosecution.
All articles taken into the carriage are carried at the entire risk of
the owner.
7. Free allowance on luggage:
i) The Following free allowance for each ticket is given at the starting
stations on the total weigh of the luggage carried by the passenger in
the compartment:-
Air-conditioned (Sleeper) class 70kg
Air-conditioned (sitter) 20kg
First class(sleeper) 40kg
Air-conditioned Lower 20kg
Economy class 40kg
Second class 35kg
Note: Any quantity of luggage booked in brake van will be charged at the
normal luggage rates. Half of these quantities are allowed for each
child ticket.
ii) Luggage in Railcars and air-conditioned Parlor car: A maximum of 20
kg of luggage, per adult passenger and 10 kg per child will only be
allowed to be carried in Railcar and air-conditioned parlor cars. These
maximum limits will constitute the free allowance on luggage allowed to
the passenger traveling in the upper or lower class of the railcars and
their trailers
Passengers (holding Tickets or Railway Passes ) are allowed to carry
with them only suit-cases, Tiffin carriers and other small articles
which can be conveniently placed on the overhead rakes, or stowed under
the seats. Other luggage may be booked by brake-vans of passenger
trains.
